About the Role
The Financial Accountant is a hands-on role responsible for accurate, compliant, and audit-ready financial records across a group of Australian entities. Key responsibilities include technical accounting, balance sheet integrity, and statutory compliance under Australian Accounting Standards and regulatory requirements. The role supports strong financial governance, external audits, and high-quality management and statutory reporting, while collaborating closely with senior finance leaders and driving continuous improvement in controls, processes, and documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Technical Financial Accounting & Compliance: Manage complex accounting entries and statutory tax obligations while ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, taxation legislation, and not-for-profit reporting requirements.
* Month-End & Year-End Close: Deliver accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes, including general ledger review, balance sheet reconciliations, and audit-ready financial statements.
* Reporting & Analysis: Prepare high-quality management and board reports with clear variance analysis, performance insights, and alignment between management, statutory, and tax reporting.
* Audit, Governance & Statutory Reporting: Support external audits and statutory reporting by preparing audit-quality documentation, maintaining strong controls, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and ACNC requirements.
* Systems, Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Drive consistent accounting treatment, system enhancements, automation, and improved documentation to strengthen reporting accuracy, audit trails, and finance capability.
* Stakeholder Management: Partner with finance and non-finance stakeholders to provide clear accounting guidance, communicate complex financial matters, and promote accountability and sound financial governance.
What You'll Bring to the Role
* CA or CPA qualified with a tertiary degree in Accounting or Finance.
* Minimum 7 years' senior financial accounting experience with strong technical and audit exposure.
* Experience in not-for-profit, community services, healthcare, or government-funded environments highly regarded.
* Advanced Excel skills and experience using Xero.
* Ability to work remotely.
