About The Role
Latrobe City Council has a senior leadership opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Manager to lead our Safe Communities department, ensuring the organisation operates with the highest levels of regulatory efficiency, compliance, and community accessibility.
As the Manager Safe Communities, you will oversee the department’s strategic and operational functions to ensure optimal regulatory compliance and enhance the amenity of Latrobe City’s natural and built environment.
You will drive service excellence through strong leadership, clear direction, and inspiring people management. You’ll champion continuous improvement, manage all departmental functions, and deliver high‑quality, community-focused regulatory and amenity services.
You will oversee the following teams and functional areas within Council:
Building Services
Lead statutory building compliance and oversee swimming pool and spa regulatory requirements.
Local Laws
Manage key compliance areas including animal management and parking enforcement.
Health Services
Oversee regulatory registrations and inspections across food, tobacco, beauty, and accommodation premises, as well as environmental compliance activities such as septic tank assessments and noise complaints.
Legal Proceedings
Oversee infringement management, internal reviews, and coordination of prosecution processes.
To be successful in this role you will need:
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and significant achievement and experience in managing regulatory teams.Expertise and proven ability in successfully leading and managing a multi-faceted community safety / regulatory function.A demonstrated ability to interpret and implement legislation and regulations in a statutory environment.Proven ability to development and successfully implement significant business / service improvements.
