The Database Management and Dynamics Section within the Business Solutions Branch of The Information Management and Technology Division, seeks a Database Administrator. The role is responsible for providing specialist development, technical services and supporting the database management capabilities.
Key duties and responsibilities The successful candidate will:
- Install, configure, and maintain MS SQL database instances, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Monitor and manage database performance, replication, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks using index tunning, dvm and third-party monitoring tools.
- Develop, implement, and manage database clustering, maintenance plans, including automated backups and disaster recovery strategies.
- Manage security configurations, including certificate management and access control.
- Manage and optimise SSAS/SSIS/SSRS and Power BI reporting environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues across hybrid and cloud environments, optimising configurations to enhance efficiency on Azure, AWS.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all database configurations, changes, and procedures for both on-premises and cloud environments.

About the team DBM manages on-premises Microsoft SQL database platform and has recently taken ownership of Azure SQL platform.
DBM is also migrating databases to a modernised cloud platform. As part of IMDs Cloud-first and application modernisation strategies, there are several business-critical applications with very large datasets currently in the stage of development to move to the Cloud. Therefore, it requires a DBA resource with the right skillset to develop this capability and provide support for increasing BAUs/migration projects.
Criteria The buyer has specified that each candidate must provide a one page pitch to address all criteria specified. This is equal to 5000 characters.
Essential criteria 1.Experience: 7+ Years in a similar role. 2.Platforms: Practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server products, including use of Always On Availability Groups, Azure SQL databases. 3.Programming: Strong SQL/T-SQL, PowerShell to support the SQL Server software and streamline or automate daily database management activities. 4.Solid problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to database management. 5.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. 6.Current active Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2) security clearance.
Desirable criteria 1.Azure and DevOps: Experience with DevOps processes and tools such as Azure DevOps and Git, Azure SQL Databases. 2.Experience with SQL Database development.
