Overview
Teacher - English - Regional Learning Specialist (RLS) is a fixed term, full-time position commencing January 2026 up until the end of June 2028. The role is within Statewide Services, Department of Education, Western Australia, supporting statewide delivery of services to schools and networks, with a focus on regional collaboration and improvement of educational outcomes.
The RLS project supports students at regional schools enrolled through the School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE), studying ATAR English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS). The RLS supplements SIDE classes with face-to-face tuition, online fortnightly tutorials, and exam revision seminars, and helps build capacity of regional teachers of ATAR courses by sharing curriculum expertise and exemplary teaching practices. The role involves significant travel across the state and, ideally, a valid WA Drivers Licence.
Responsibilities
* Provide face-to-face tuition to senior secondary students enrolled through SIDE and studying ATAR English, Mathematics, Science, and HASS.
* Deliver online fortnightly tutorials and exam revision seminars.
* Support less experienced regional teachers of ATAR courses by sharing curriculum expertise and exemplary teaching and learning practices.
* Collaborate with regional staff to ensure statewide integration of support to schools and students through regional networks.
* Assist in the delivery of professional learning and the interpretation of policy related to secondary education.
* Contribute to safety and supportive learning environments in secondary science laboratories and participate in related administrative activities (scholarships, competitions, promotions).
Qualifications and Experience
* Expert, high-level ATAR English teaching capability with a track record of excellence in teaching and learning in secondary education.
* Professional knowledge and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school English curriculum.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff across school communities to achieve positive outcomes for students.
* Experience teaching Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) English and/or Literature is highly regarded.
* Willingness to travel across the state; a WA Driver's Licence is preferred.

Eligibility
* Hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration.
* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment.

* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number from the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
