Job Summary
Inverell Shire Council is looking for someone like you for the role of Building Maintenance Officer. The Building Maintenance Officer is a member of Council's Environmental Services team and every day will be varied and interesting; you will be responsible for undertaking routine minor maintenance and repairs at Council's buildings, managing essential fire safety services, assisting in the management of building projects and other general compliance and environmental duties.
About Inverell Shire Council and the Environmental Services team
Under the direction of Council's Manager Environmental Health, Council's Environmental Services team is responsible for a variety of tasks in the support of the Inverell Shire Council's services to the community:
1. Overseeing large and impactful construction projects in the Inverell community delivered by Council, including Inverell Aquatic Centre.
2. Waste Management and recycling services for Inverell and surrounding communities.
3. Our Rangers liaise directly with the community to assist with the management of stray animals, illegal dumping and noise concerns.
4. Day to day operation of Council's new companion animal care facility.
5. Day to day maintenance and inspection of Council's build assets, including the Town Hall, Art Gallery, Library and Visitor Information Centre.
6. Coordination of contractors delivering building and construction services on behalf of Council.

Responsibilities
Applicants will be responsible for providing assistance with Council's building maintenance activities including managing fire safety in council buildings, managing building projects, maintaining the lawns and gardens at the Administration Centre and environmental/building compliance.
Selection Criteria
Qualifications
10. NSW School Certificate/ Record of School Achievement or equivalent.
11. NSW Class C Drivers License.
12. Trade Qualification in building/construction industry.
Skills and Experience
13. Demonstrated customer service experience.
14. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment.
15. Understanding of Work Health and Safety Regulations.
16. Willingness to undertake training in the areas of environmental compliance.
17. Experience with the operation of small machinery such as mowers, etc.
18. Previous experience in undertaking building maintenance, repairs, and installations.
19. Ability to work unsupervised.
20. Knowledge of requirements for relevant building codes and Australian Standards for the Building Construction Industry.
Additional Qualifications
21. SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction card (White Card).
22. Understanding of chemical application procedures relating to pesticides and herbicides.
23. Knowledge and experience in contractor/project management.
24. Experience across a broad range of building/construction work including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, painting and plastering.
Employment will be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Local Government (State) Award 2023. The classification for the position will be up to Administrative/ Technical/ Trades Band 1, Level 4, Grade 8. Salary will be in accordance with qualifications and experience, and will be in a range from $1,225.72 to $1,320.01 gross per week.
