Full-time, permanent opportunity. The Graduate Research Officer (Legal) role offers an exciting opportunity to undertake research and provide advice on a broad range of issues, case law and legislation affecting local government. Location: Sydney, New South Wales.

About the Role
Reporting to the Legal Officer, the Graduate Research Officer (Legal) plays an important role in supporting the Legal Officer and Director Workforce & Legal in providing advice to LGNSW and its members on a broad range of legal issues, case law and legislation affecting local government, including the Local Government Act and Regulations, Planning and Environment Law, Property Law, Contract Law, Code of Conduct issues and complaints, Council meetings and procedures, and privacy and access to information.

About You
You will possess or be working towards the attainment of tertiary qualifications in law, hold or be eligible to hold a practising certificate as a Solicitor within 6 months of commencement, and be looking to apply your legal knowledge and skill in a customer focused role.
Essential Requirements

* Hold or be eligible to hold a practising certificate as a Solicitor within 6 months of commencement
* Experience in interpreting legislation and case law
* Well-developed oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrated research skills, including online research
* General knowledge of issues impacting on NSW local government
* Knowledge of office-based computer packages
* Class C drivers' licence and flexibility to travel
