The Role
Are you passionate about the power of words to transform lives?
Global Village Learning (GVL) is seeking a Literacy Specialist to join our dynamic, learner-led, future-focused community. This is not just about phonics or essays — it's about meeting learners where they are and guiding them beyond what they thought possible.
You'll design and deliver targeted support for learners who need a hand — and those who are ready to fly. Across all ages and cycles, from early readers to future authors, your impact will be deep and lasting.
-----------------------------------
Who You Are
You are...
* A VIT-registered educator with a strong grounding in literacy development.
* Experienced in both intervention (e.g. decoding, comprehension, structured literacy) and extension (e.g. writing craft, critical literacy, literary analysis).
* Skilled at building trust, curiosity, and confidence in readers and writers of all ages.
* Flexible, creative, and collaborative across multi-age, mixed-stage groups.
* Committed to evidence-based practices without losing the magic of the written word.
-----------------------------------
In This Role, You Will:
* Work with learners across all developmental zones (Foundations & Play through Pathways & Futures).
* Design personalised learning plans that support and stretch literacy growth.
* Co-create meaningful literacy experiences linked to EDventurous Projects, Personal Interest Projects, and Pathways goals.
* Collaborate with other Guides to integrate literacy in real-world, purposeful ways.
* Track progress using our mastery-based model, not marks or grade levels.
* Empower learners to express themselves with confidence, clarity and creativity.
-----------------------------------
Why This Role Matters at GVL
Literacy is more than a skill — it's a tool for advocacy, storytelling, impact and identity. As our community continues to grow, we need someone who can:
* Light the fire for struggling readers
* Fan the flame for those ready for more
* And model a deep love for language, across every age group.
-----------------------------------
Essentials
* Current VIT Registration
* Experience with structured literacy AND open-ended, writer-driven approaches
* Ability to work across multiple ages and stages
* Strong collaboration and communication skills
* Current WWCC, First Aid (Level 2), Anaphylaxis (or willingness to obtain)
