- Excellent facilities and modern equipment
- Work in a supportive team at an established family-owned business
- Comfortable housing and competitive remuneration
The Role
This owner-managed farming business, covering a total of 2,400 hectares, is seeking two long-term team members: an experienced farm hand and an irrigation farm hand. The farm is well equipped, with 1,000 hectares under irrigation dedicated to growing cotton and 1,100 hectares of dryland cropping.
Currently, the business is in the planning stages of transitioning to bankless irrigation, a move that positions the organisation at the forefront of technological advancements in the industry. The farm has invested in modern machinery to enhance efficiency and continues to do so. The land features self-mulching black soil with an average annual rainfall of approximately 600 mm. This season, the cropping operation includes a variety of crops, such as wheat, barley, and irrigated cotton.
Our clients take pride in their hands-on management approach and prioritise an inclusive workplace culture that values employee contributions. Your opinions and input are greatly encouraged. On-the-job training will be provided, ensuring you feel supported and truly part of the team.
As a farmhand, you must demonstrate enthusiasm and a can-do attitude to complete tasks efficiently. You will work closely with the hands-on owner/manager, report to the Assistant Manager, and collaborate with another team member.
Your responsibilities as a farm hand will include planting, spraying, harvesting, operating and maintaining large machinery, and performing general farm duties, while the irrigation farm hand will be responsible for maintaining flood irrigation systems in addition to general farm duties.
This role is suitable for both experienced and inexperienced applicants who have an agricultural background and a passion for producing high-quality crops.
The Offer
The successful applicant will receive a competitive hourly rate based on skills and experience. On-farm accommodation is included, featuring a newly renovated, fully furnished three-bedroom cottage or a partly furnished three-bedroom cottage, along with electricity and a work-purpose Ute supplied.
The farm cottage is situated 60 kilometres from Moree on well-maintained roads, providing access to a welcoming community and a full range of essential services, including groceries, a hospital, and other necessities.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking candidates who ideally possess farming experience, a proactive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a solid passion for the agricultural industry. The following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:
- Experience in operating large machinery
- Mechanical aptitude and fabrication skills
- Knowledge of irrigation practices (valuable)
- A valid driver's license is essential; a truck license is an asset
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Demonstrated reliability, honesty, and a strong work ethic, along with maintaining clean and organised work habits
