About the role

We are currently recruiting multiple Senior Engineers – Power Systems to join our team within Network Investment and Maintenance. This role can work from home within the Essential Energy footprint with the possibility of some travel as appropriate for connection and collaboration purposes.

The Senior Engineer is responsible for leading the technical assessment, power system modelling activities and power system analysis across network planning, grid connection and network operation enabling Essential Energy network transition in accordance with the National Electricity Rules and Essential Energy Policies and standards.

Key responsibilities

* Lead the technical assessment, due-diligence and compliance verification for complex assets (including IBR, storage systems and large-scale loads). Perform detailed modelling and data analysis to engineer remediation strategies and network strengthening solution that ensure the viability of proposed network development
* Drive the scoping and execution of complex steady state and dynamic engineering studies. Evaluate the cumulative impact of system changes on network capability and operational limits in alignment to National Electricity Rules, and Essential Energy policies and standards
* Provide technical oversight of network development, assessing their impact on system strength, voltage and transient stability. Propose and validate technical solutions, to maintain power system resilience during the energy transition
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define operational requirements for operation and performance standards of embedded generation and emerging technologies, ensuring seamless integration into the Essential Energy distribution and sub-transmission networks
* Liaise with external stakeholders, customer and regulatory bodies as part of the negotiation of complex network investment and development projects, connection agreements and performance standards according to provisions of the National Electricity Rules to o ensure optimal outcomes for network integrity
* Maintain project status reports and provide briefings to management and internal stakeholders as required

About You

You will possess substantial experience in utilising analytical tools and specialist technical knowledge to address complex power systems challenges. You will bring advanced skills in power system modelling, including steady-state, post-contingency analysis, transient stability, and electromagnetic transient studies using industry-standard tools such as PSCAD/EMTDC and PSS/E.

Your background will include significant expertise in the analysis and planning of transmission or distribution networks, as well as an in-depth understanding of the National Electricity Rules and AEMO guidelines. You will be adept at balancing technical requirements with commercial objectives, demonstrating strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to manage diverse and intricate issues.

You will be adaptable, organised, and skilled in managing complex tasks, with strong attention to detail and effective communication.

Mandatory Qualification

* Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) or equivalent to satisfy Professional Engineer membership to the Institution of Engineers Australia
* Specialisation in Power System Engineering and Analysis (Master's Degree favoured)
* Working knowledge of automation analysis processes through scripting languages (Python, VBA).
