Primary objective
Provide primary health care practice services in a culturally safe and effective manner through prevention; early intervention and
promoting health and well-being.
Context statement
The successful applicant must be an experienced Aboriginal Health Practitioner within the field of Primary Health Care, able to work across
the continuum of care within a multi-disciplinary team, be a proficient practitioner with a clear understanding of Primary Health Care
within the organisation, with the ability to provide comprehensive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care within the
urban setting.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide culturally responsive primary health care practice in collaboration with other healthcare professionals including developing
and coordinating healthcare plans for individuals; supporting them in complying with their care plan as required and within the scope
of practice.
1. Participate in planning, delivery and evaluation of health education and health promotion programs, including engagement with local
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to strengthen community involvement in health care service delivery.
1. Provide health practice and cultural support to other health professionals to build cultural competence and responsiveness.
2. Provide clinical supervision, mentoring, and support to Trainee Aboriginal Health practitioners in developing their skills, knowledge
and professional capabilities.
1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken, in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practice and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia with no conditions.
2. Qualification minimum AQF Level 5 as per NTPS Aboriginal Health Practitioner Enterprise Agreement.
3. Demonstrated experience in providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care practices to individuals and families
as an experienced practitioner.
4. Demonstrated local cultural knowledge and exercise cultural respect and safety at the individual and family levels.
5. Working knowledge and experience of the community and health information systems (CCIS) used in the clinic setting including tele-
health and patient care systems, including attention to detail with the recording of data.
6. Current Ochre Card, relevant Criminal History Check, confirmation of Aboriginality.
Desirable
1. Hold a current Northern Territory (NT) driver's licence or ability to obtain.
