Are you motivated by turning ideas into action? Can you influence with ease in a busy environment? This role gives you the chance to do exactly that. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Principal Advisor to join the Office of the Deputy Secretary Corporate Services.
We're looking for a Principal Advisor who can quickly spot opportunities, cut through complexity and keep work moving. You'll champion smarter ways of working by strengthening systems and processes and exploring how tools and approaches can lift the quality and impact of our work.
Alongside this, you'll take ownership of the day‑to‑day essentials that keep us operating smoothly – preparing advice, coordinating inputs, tracking progress and mentoring others to build capability across the team.
Responsibilities
Your experience as a Principal Advisor in a large or complex public sector organisation will enable you to succeed in delivering your key responsibilities which include:
Leading continuous improvement initiatives, implementing enduring improvements to the way we do things
Ensuring deadlines are met with high-quality advice and insights that hit the mark first time round and inform decision making
Proactively identifying issues or risks and leading the development and implementation of mitigation strategies.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
Demonstrated experience navigating complex environments and driving improvements to systems, processes and information flows
Strong people centred change capability, with the ability to influence and support teams to adopt new systems and ways of working
Proven confidence in coaching and mentoring others to uplift capability and practice
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and provide meaningful insights to senior leaders
Strong knowledge and experience in machinery of government and governance processes, with excellent political savviness.

The Office of the Deputy Secretary (the Office) is a conduit for Corporate Services and maintains high level oversight of Business Group functions and provides value-add advice to ensure issues are addressed and connections are made across the Group and Ministry.
The Office is responsible for execution of business group wide initiatives, and for ensuring quality inputs for machinery of government and governance processes and systems. The Office also provides services such as Business Group planning and performance reporting, therefore a familiarity with planning cycles and financial aspects in large business groups is also desirable but not critical to this role.
The Office works closely with similar functions including other Deputy Secretary Offices, the Office of the Chief Executive and Minister's Offices, as well as teams who focus on organisational strategy, planning and performance monitoring.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The appointing salary for this role will be between $130,129 and $179,192 based on skills and experience.
