Opportunity
The Kids Research Institute, Wesfarmers Centre of Vaccines & Infectious Diseases (WCVID) is a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary centre whose vision is to reduce the impact of infectious diseases through excellent and innovative research and partnership with families and community.
Ensuring our research occurs in partnership with community and is guided by a strong Aboriginal voice is essential in our work.
This includes developing a strategic programme of work that accelerates Aboriginal equity within the Centre and addresses the gap in Aboriginal peoples' health outcomes resulting from infectious diseases.
We have a position available for an Aboriginal Lead for the WCVID who will provide strategic advice and leadership to ensure that strong Aboriginal cultural governance practices are well defined and embedded within WCVID focus areas and research practices within the WCVID are culturally safe.
This role will leverage your passion to connect with people, develop strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders and community to develop a strategic and operational research programme for accelerating Aboriginal equity within the Centre and the infectious disease research area.
Responsibilities
Exploring strategies for accelerating Aboriginal researcher employment across the Centre.
Elevating the capacity and confidence of non-Aboriginal and Aboriginal researchers to conduct ethical research with Aboriginal communities.
Developing and implementing an operational blueprint for researchers, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of our research.
Building effective relationships with the Aboriginal community and healthcare providers, including ACCOs, ACHOOS and Aboriginal University Centres.
Empowering community members to assist in the two-way transfer of knowledge between the Centre and the community.
Qualifications
Demonstrated experience of Aboriginal leadership with a focus on capacity building.
A highly developed understanding of Aboriginal research, research design and application across diverse cultural settings (including ethics, study design, data collection and data management).
Ability to work independently, take initiative, communicate and work within a team.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated interpersonal skills and a proactive attitude to relationship building.
Self-management and high personal motivation.
Computer literacy – familiarity with computer systems including Excel and electronic data capture.
Knowledge of and interest in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and vaccinations is desirable.
