Multicultural Communities Council of SA (MCCSA) is welcoming enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers from diverse cultural backgrounds to join our Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS).
You will offer friendship and companionship to an older person, helping reduce loneliness and social isolation. This adaptable and rewarding opportunity is suitable for people who are working, studying, or retired and is a meaningful way to give back to the community.
Key Details
Age: Volunteers must be 18 years or older
Commitment: At least 20 visits per year (about one hour every fortnight)
Activities: Share stories over a cup of tea, go for a walk, or enjoy a hobby together
No personal care involved: Volunteers do not assist with meals, finances, advocacy, or personal care
Centrelink approved: This role meets mutual obligation requirements for those aged 55+
What Were Looking For
Patience, empathy, and excellent communication (especially listening)
Respect, kindness, reliability, and a non-judgmental attitude
Flexibility and the ability to follow boundaries, policies, and procedures
Most importantly, a genuine enjoyment of spending time with older people
Additional Info
A National Police Certificate is required (we’ll help you apply, and it’s free of charge).

Training
All ACVVS volunteers get an induction before starting. Ongoing training is offered every 2 months. MCCSA volunteers can also join free English classes, social activities, and appreciation events.
