Overview
General Manager, Commercial Finance – Melbourne. Full-time role reporting to the CFO, Finance Leadership Team, and senior business leaders. Responsible for leading AGL's commercial finance capability enterprise-wide, delivering high quality commercial insight, disciplined capital stewardship, and strong financial governance. Partners across the organisation to support strategic and operational decision making, optimise value creation, and manage financial risk across major investments, transactions, and strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
* Lead company-wide commercial finance activities, supporting strategic and material operational decisions across the business.
* Act as a trusted senior advisor to business leaders and the CFO on commercial, financial, and value creation matters.
* Embed consistent commercial discipline, value assurance, and financial governance frameworks across Finance and the broader business.
* Provide oversight, review, and challenge for major investments, transactions, partnerships, and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategy and return expectations.
* Provide strong business partnering to the various business units and ensuring the right balance of support and challenge is provided, identifying risks and opportunities.
* Support disciplined capital stewardship, including evaluation of returns, risks, and trade-offs for material initiatives.
* Ensure strong understanding of value drivers, financial risks, and sensitivities, and embed this capability across the commercial finance team.
* Provide forward-looking commercial insight and scenario-based analysis to support strategy development and execution.
* Build effective working relationships across the Finance Leadership Team and senior business leaders to enable collaboration and constructive challenge.
* Lead, develop, and engage senior commercial finance leaders, supporting capability uplift and succession planning.
* Contribute positively to the leadership, culture, and continuous improvement of the Finance function.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in Finance, Commerce, Economics or a related discipline.
* CA / CPA / ACA qualification (mandatory).
* Significant senior level experience in commercial finance roles within large, complex organisations.
* Demonstrated experience partnering with senior leaders and executives.
* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance value creation, risk, and strategic alignment.
* Experience in investment evaluation, capital governance, and value assurance.
* Highly developed analytical, judgement, and problem solving skills.
* Strong influencing, communication, and stakeholder management capability.
* Experience leading and developing senior finance professionals.
* Solid understanding of financial governance and risk management.
