**Your new role**:
BAE Systems Maritime Australia (formerly known as ASC Shipbuilding), has been contracted to deliver nine of the world's most advanced anti-submarine warfare frigates to the Royal Australian Navy. The Hunter Class Frigate Program (HCFP) will create and sustain more than 5,000 jobs across BAE Systems and the wider Australian Defence supply chain over the life of the program.
As the Detailed Design Discipline Lead, you will work with the Management Team & in particular the Delivery Lead, on the management of cost and schedule elements of allocated work scope against agreed programme targets. A focus for this role will be the management of in-country Detail Design capability to execute significant packages of work on the Hunter Class Frigate Program, and develop a capability growth path in support of continuous naval shipbuilding
**Reporting to Detailed Design Engineering Manager you will be**:
- In charge of the day to day line Management of a team of Detail Designers
- Maintaining the alignment of the core Detailed Design tools, processes, policies and methodology between BAE Systems UK Naval Ships & the BAE Systems Australia Maritime Acquisition
- Developing and/or maintaining Detailed Design processes and procedures in order to ensure cost effective, repeatable and quality deliverables
- Continuing development of capability at the Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide
- Accountable for the Quality of outputs (against agreed programme targets) produced by their team of Detailed Designers and as governed by the assigned processes and procedures
- Advising and supporting Operations and other functions
About you
**As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have**:
- Drafting qualification such as Technical Diploma in Engineering or equivalent industry experience
- Demonstrated experience as a draftsperson, preferably within Naval/Maritime, Defence or allied industry including experience in a leadership position in a technical domain
- Mechanical CAD experience with the ability to use the core engineering tools (e.g. FORAN, Windchill, AVEVA ERM)
- Well-developed leadership skills and the proven ability to motivate and influence others
- Demonstrated experience working within a systems engineering framework
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Defence security clearance or eligibility to obtain
- Eligibility to be cleared for International Traffic In Arms (ITAR) regulations
