This role is a 9 months fixed term contract.
The purpose of the role is to support the Australia Finance team in delivering the external reporting requirements of the Australia business across multiple bases of reporting, including US GAAP, Australia IFRS, LAGIC, Bermuda Monetary Authority, and Economic Capital Base.
The role involves supporting key month-end and quarter-end processes, as well as annual statutory financial statement preparation.
It requires a deep understanding of statutory, regulatory, and technical accounting issues in the insurance industry.
The responsibilities are broad and include tax compliance (GST, Transfer Pricing, Corporate tax), accounting analysis, and supporting internal and external audit requests.
Duties
The main duties include:
Financial Reporting: Prepare month-end/quarter-end journal entries for PLRA and UMA under various accounting standards (including US GAAP, IFRS, APRA), ensuring process integrity and continuous improvement.
Perform and oversee monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations, ensuring accurate general ledger maintenance and correct postings across systems.
Oversee financial result consolidation and reporting to Group Finance.
Support the preparation of accurate annual statutory financial statements, regulatory, and tax returns aligned with the December year-end cycle.
Oversee corporate tax, GST, and other tax filings in collaboration with tax advisors.
Support intercompany reconciliations and transfer pricing arrangements.
Ensure the audit process is well-planned, coordinated, and timely to meet regulatory reporting deadlines.
Support the Finance Team with various tasks and ad-hoc projects.
Maintain an organized filing system for all documents.
Qualifications & Experience
Professional accounting designation (CPA / ACA / ACCA or equivalent).
At least 3 years of accounting experience with exposure to financial reporting and analysis.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical accounting skills.
Proficiency in general ledger systems and BI tools, advanced Excel skills, and experience with enterprise finance applications like SAP AFO or PeopleSoft.
Deep understanding of IFRS, US GAAP, and US tax accounting.
Knowledge of reinsurance/insurance accounting and actuarial concepts is a plus but not required.
Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships across functions and work effectively in teams.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Strong time management skills, with flexibility to collaborate across multiple time zones and global teams.
Proactive and adaptable with leadership qualities and an eye for process improvement and automation.
