We’re looking for an Asset Protection Permits Officer to help safeguard our community and ensure development works across Boroondara are carried out safely and responsibly.
About The Role
In this role, you will assess and administer a wide range of permits and consents relating to construction works, utility works and public authority activities on Council land. You will contribute to maintaining a safe and high‑quality public realm by ensuring assets are protected, reinstated and compliant with legislation and Council Local Laws.
You will also play an important community advocacy role, resolving issues, managing enquiries and supporting customers with clear, timely and professional guidance. This position works closely with colleagues across the Council and external stakeholders including residents, public authorities, builders and contractors.

You’re a confident communicator who enjoys working with a diverse range of customers and stakeholders. You bring strong judgement, resilience and a solutions‑focused mindset to each interaction. Your background may be in local government, construction, compliance, engineering or a similar field, and you understand how to interpret legislation, traffic management plans and technical information.
You thrive in a fast‑paced environment where accuracy, consistency and quality service really matter. You’re organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of customer service. Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will assess and issue permits and consents under relevant legislation, Local Laws and the Road Management Act, ensuring all applications meet required standards. You will review traffic management plans, coordinate referrals and maintain accurate records, registers and databases that support compliance and audit requirements.
You will respond to customer enquiries, complaints and requests for information, providing timely and professional assistance to residents, contractors and public authorities. You will also investigate reported damage to Council infrastructure, manage bonds, support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the smooth delivery of services within the Asset Protection and Permits team.

Employment Requirements
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to deal effectively with property owners, builders and developers in a confident but respectful manner. Knowledge of the Local Government Act 2020, Protection of Council Assets and Control of Building Sites Local Law 2021, Amenity Local Law and some knowledge of the Road Management Act 2024 and Road Management (Works and Infrastructure) Regulations 2015 is preferred.
