THE OPPORTUNITY

Tableland Veterinary Service is seeking a new NURSE TEAM LEADER to join our Atherton clinic.

This leadership position plays a key role in our larger clinics, acting as the conductor for our clinical care 'orchestra' of veterinarians, veterinary nurses and kennel assistants. They work alongside the clinic's Practice Manager as a vital communication link between the clinic team and our business' senior leadership and administrative support, helping to share details of challenges, ideas, decision and policies in both directions.

They need to be collaborative and foster a culture that encourages staff to voice concerns and ideas, but also be able to make sound decisions and communicate these effectively and with empathy. Our Nurse Team Leaders require excellent emotional intelligence to effectively identify and support the emotions of their team, while also managing their own reactions in a calm and constructive way. An ability to negotiate and mediate difference of opinions is essential.

They are also expected to contribute to our Nurse Clinical Advisory Team, shaping our policies, procedures and training resources for our team of 30+ veterinary nurses across eight clinics. This includes reviewing, drafting and implementing new Stardards of Care and delivering training to our team, both within your own clinic and across our group of clinics.

THE DAY TO DAY ROLE

Each day will be a mix of clinical veterinary nursing, coaching and mentoring of trainee nurses, and administrative tasks including coordinating rosters, interviewing new nursing staff, undertaking performance reviews, running team meetings and drafting policies and procedures.

Clinical work includes supporting our veterinarians in the consult room, caring for hospitalised patients, preparing, monitoring and recovering patients from both routine surgery and more complex orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures, prophylactic dental procedures and diagnostic radiography procedures (subject to radiation use license). This is an opportunity for your to apply all of your skills and training to deliver excellent care to our patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provide leadership, support and mentoring to the clinical veterinary nurse team.
* Solve clinic operational challenges, including developing new nursing standards of care, policies and procedures.
* Contribute to the TVS leadership team's operational and strategic decision making.
* Deliver memorable customer experiences and para-professional veterinary services and animal health advice to clients.
* Maintain a hygienic, orderly and efficient clinic environment.
* Provide care for hospitalised patients.
* Prepare, monitor and recover surgical patients including for routine procedures and complex orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery
* Deliver customer service and clinical care to inpatients and outpatients
* Undertake advanced clinical procedures under the supervision of the veterinary team

Tableland Veterinary Service is a family owned group of mixed practice veterinary clinics across Far North Queensland. Our clinics are located in Malanda, Atherton and Ravenshoe on the Atherton Tableland, along with clinics in Charters Towers, Edmonton, Cooktown and Weipa. THE POSITION DETAILS

* Full time position, although part time would be considered by negotiation
* Full time roster is 4 days per week
* Workday from 7:30am to 5:00pm with 1/2 hour lunch break
* Some Saturday morning work may be required
* Pay rate will be dependent on experience, qualifications and skills, but would range from $35 to $40 per hour
* Four weeks holiday leave per year
