About the Role
NAAJA’s Civil Law team is a dynamic and diverse practice providing legal support across areas including housing, social security, discrimination, tenancy, and victims of crime assistance claims.
As a Civil Lawyer (Housing and Social Security Practice Group), you’ll deliver high-quality legal advice, casework, and representation to Aboriginal clients, helping to address systemic disadvantage and uphold rights in housing and welfare systems.
You’ll conduct litigation, attend urban and remote advice clinics, and collaborate closely with community organisations and government agencies. This role also contributes to policy and law reform initiatives that aim to achieve lasting justice for Aboriginal people in the NT.
What You’ll Do
- Conduct litigation and casework within the Housing and Social Security Practice Group
- Provide culturally responsive civil law advice to clients in urban and remote areas
- Travel to remote communities (up to 4 nights at a time) to deliver outreach clinics
- Contribute to law reform, advocacy and systemic justice initiatives
- Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team of lawyers, client service officers, and support staff
What You’ll Bring
- Eligibility for admission as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of the NT and High Court of Australia
- Demonstrated experience or strong interest in civil law (housing and social security preferred)
- Strong advocacy, litigation, and case management skills
- Cross-cultural communication skills and commitment to culturally protected practice
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a busy, high-impact environment
- Current driver’s licence, Ochre Card eligibility, and satisfactory criminal history check
