We are seeking a skilled professional to lead our community development initiatives in the Top End region.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced leader to join our team as the Head of Community Development and Wellbeing.
As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of community-led initiatives that strengthen governance, local decision-making, and culturally safe practices.
You will work closely with our First Nations Governance Committee and broader team to ensure that our programs are grounded in local knowledge systems, cultural authority, and community voice.
Main Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Planning: Provide strength-based leadership to a team of Community Development Coordinators, Community Leads, and Community Engagement and Support Workers. Ensure culturally responsive practice across all communities.
2. Community Development: Facilitate community-led planning processes that prioritize cultural knowledge, community safety, local employment, and inclusive governance.
3. Program Design and Implementation: Guide the team to design and implement tailored programs that address community priorities across cultural, social, economic, health, and wellbeing needs.
4. Team Development and Support: Mentor and coach staff to build their skills and confidence in governance, facilitation, and community development.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Experience working with First Nations people and communities, with a strong understanding of cultural safety and inclusivity.
* Qualifications and/or minimum 3 years' experience in Community Development, Community Services, Youth Development, Education, or related field.
* Strong people skills – teamwork, communication, highly collaborative, and ability to work in a flexible team environment.
* Ability to balance competing work priorities and to work to tight timeframes and deadlines.
* Experience in data collection, report writing, and sharing data story with a broad audience.
