Production Manager - Timber Manufacturing Operations Bulolo, Papua New Guinea
This role sits within a highly diversified manufacturing organisation operating across forestry, sawmilling, engineered wood products and prefabricated building systems. The Production Manager will play a critical leadership role in ensuring efficient, safe and high-quality production across a significant integrated manufacturing facility.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Operations Manager, this senior leadership position is responsible for the safe, efficient and productive operation of the manufacturing plant.
You will lead and coordinate multiple production teams responsible for:
* Plywood mill (Plymill)
* Sawmill operations
* Planing mill
* Timber treatment plant
* Kiln drying operations
The role focuses on driving production efficiency, recovery rates, product quality and operational discipline, while leading and mentoring a team of managers and supervisors across the facility.
This is a unique opportunity to take ownership of a large, integrated timber manufacturing operation and contribute directly to operational performance and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage production operations across the manufacturing facility
* Maintain optimal production output, efficiency and recovery rates
* Ensure products meet or exceed quality and industry standards
* Provide regular operational and production reporting to senior leadership
* Coordinate production managers and senior supervisors across departments
* Manage production budgets and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency
* Ensure availability of production materials and operational continuity
* Maintain strong health, safety and regulatory compliance standards
* Mentor and develop operational staff to build capability across the business
About You
We are seeking a hands-on operational leader with strong experience in timber manufacturing environments.
You Will Likely Bring
* 10-15+ years' experience in sawmill or plywood manufacturing operations
* At least 5 years in a senior production or operations leadership role
* Strong knowledge of plywood, sawmill and timber processing operations
* Proven ability to lead large production teams and multiple departments
* Strong commercial awareness and operational problem-solving capability
* The ability to operate effectively in a dynamic production environment
* A leadership style that supports discipline, accountability and team development
Experience with engineered wood products or prefabricated building systems would be advantageous.
Location - Bulolo, Papua New Guinea
Bulolo is a well-established township in Morobe Province with a long history in forestry and timber manufacturing. The town provides a structured community environment supported by company infrastructure and services.
