An excellent opportunity has become available for experienced Principal Financial Policy Officer to be responsible for developing and maintaining the financial management and financial governance frameworks. You will provide high quality policy and assurance advice and services ensuring accountability, transparency and value for money for Queenslanders.
**As the successful Principal Financial Policy Officer, your key responsibilities will include the following**:
- Lead and develop financial management and financial governance frameworks in place to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and government policy and enhance and promote sound and better practice financial management.
- Ability to interpret the Australian Accounting Standards and Queensland Treasury Financial Reporting Requirements and other relevant legislation changes and ability to design and develop policies and procedures and other guidance materials relevant to the Department.
- Establish, implement and maintain effective financial policies, procedures, guidelines and practices.
- Provide expert advice to senior management on legislative and policy positions with regards to financial management and the possible impact to on the Department and its business units.
- Deliver creative and innovative approaches to financial policy and governance support though formal and informal training to enable clients to maximise benefits to be derived from good financial management.
- Lead continuous improvement by encouraging an environment where high quality work is achieved and is supported by the development and adherence to quality systems.
- Behave in a manner that is consistent with core values of Department of Agriculture and Fisheries following defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Provide excellent stakeholder engagement with Business Groups to ensure internal controls compliance.
- Communicate and lead with influence to convey and guide acceptance of complex internal controls, financial delegations and policy matters to departmental governance committees and diverse audiences to achieve organisational objectives.
- Support the Manager, Financial Policy and Assurance in the management of the day-to-day tasks of the Financial Policy and Assurance team, including assisting in the resolution of any policy or assurance issues, via provision of comprehensive advice and solutions to be implemented.
- Present reports and information that is clear and concise based on sound interpretation with comprehensive arguments that identify all relevant issues in order to influence required compliance both verbally and in the written form.
- Participate in any projects or ad hoc tasks as directed by the Manager, Financial Policy and Assurance.
