This organisation operates a shipyard with six dry repair berths and three wet berths, providing comprehensive ship repair, engineering, and maintenance services. It is a leading provider of these services in the Darwin region.
About the Position:
WorkPac is currently seeking a Dockmaster/Yard Supervisor to join our client in Darwin. The role involves managing all lifting cradle preparation, crane operations, docking and undocking of vessels, and providing support services within the shipyard.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Oversee the smooth and efficient operation of ship lifting, vessel movements, crane operations, and yard maintenance.
* Ensure all tasks comply with company EHQMS procedures.
* Collaborate closely with other Supervisors to meet production goals and ensure seamless operations.
* Monitor manpower levels and advise of any shortfalls or resource needs.
* Supervise and manage all personnel under your control, ensuring they are trained, competent, and capable; provide on-the-job training as needed.
* Oversee maintenance and operation of key assets including ship lift, tracks, cradles, mooring pontoons, fenders, wharf access ladders, and yard lifting equipment.
* Maintain accurate logs of vessel movements to ensure correct billing for layby and storage.
* Manage slipping and unslipping operations according to EHQMS guidelines.
* Maintain a clean, hazard-free yard with clear access for vehicles and vessels.
* Ensure availability of all necessary tools and consumables for slipping/unslipping operations.
* Perform annual seabed configuration checks and record any silting changes under the Syncrolift system.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Dock Master Certificate
* Proven experience in docking vessels
* Ability to read and interpret ship drawings for designing and constructing docking cradles
* Capability to perform docking calculations for vessels
* Understanding of ship stability and loading conditions
* Strong teamwork and leadership skills
* Excellent time management and ability to work under pressure to meet schedules
* Experience maintaining planned maintenance systems and implementing scheduled maintenance tasks on the Syncrolift
* Comprehensive knowledge of safety protocols related to high-risk tasks
* C Class Driver's Licence
