Nurse Manager – District Demand Capacity & Innovation
Western Virtual Division – Service Delivery Directorate
About the role
The Nurse Manager – District Demand, Capacity and Innovation is responsible for leading and supporting strategic change across Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD) to improve access to care that is safe, timely, effective and centred on patient needs.
The role works collaboratively with services across the district and with external partners to drive local solutions that enhance access to care and embed continuous and sustainable improvements in service delivery. A key component of the position is the monitoring and evaluation of whole‑of‑health initiatives, including patient flow and access performance, and providing clear analysis and reporting to the WNSWLHD Executive and local facility managers. The role works closely with whole‑of‑health leads and patient flow managers to develop and support local improvement strategies that strengthen patient flow and overall access performance.
The position is responsible for implementing robust continuous quality improvement processes and effective change‑management approaches to ensure ongoing enhancement of patient flow and access systems. This work is undertaken within the constraints of available resources, the realities of a politically sensitive environment and the community’s expectation of an efficient and positive patient journey.
The Nurse Manager provides leadership that supports the delivery of high‑quality clinical services through staff guidance, service evaluation, change management and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The role contributes to the development of policies related to nursing and midwifery services and promotes a culture of continuous improvement in clinical practice.
A further responsibility of the position is monitoring, evaluating and improving WNSWLHD performance against NSW Ministry of Health emergency department avoidance strategies. This includes oversight of initiatives such as the Discharge Patient Concierge strategy and supporting achievement of the key performance indicator requiring 50 per cent of patients to be directly admitted into Hospital in the Home.
