The Role
Working as part the Tribunal's Secretariat team, the Assistant Executive Officer performs a range of administrative duties to support the service that the Tribunal provides to members of the Australian Defence Force and veterans. In particular, you will be responsible for management of all administrative functions associated with the Tribunal's review and inquiry processes, including receipt and organisation of submissions to the Tribunal, assisting applicants with navigating the Tribunal review process, drafting correspondence and arranging hearings.
You will also be responsible for responding to more general requests for administrative assistance from the Chair and Members of the Tribunal, such as arranging their travel and facilitating payment of member sitting fees. About our Team
The Defence Honours and Awards Appeals Tribunal is an independent statutory body established to investigate matters arising in the area of Defence honours and awards. The Tribunal is supported by a small Secretariat unit that assists the Tribunal in performing its statutory functions.
In doing so, the Secretariat:
* Is the conduit between the Tribunal and applicants to Tribunal (mostly veterans), and with the Department of Defence;
* Liaises with the office of the Minister for Defence Personnel on issues arising in the Tribunal;
* Conducts research into issues put before the Tribunal in inquiry and review matters;
* Arranges and administers all public and private hearings and meetings of the Tribunal; and

Our Ideal Candidate
Working as part of a small team, our ideal candidate will have a strong customer focus, be responsive and reliable, and will be able to manage a range of different administrative tasks in support of applicants to the Tribunal as well as the Tribunal Chair and Members. An understanding of administrative systems including the Corporate Travel Management system would be advantageous.

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.
