Your opportunity
We are seeking a knowledgeable, detail-focused Trade Waste Officer to administer Council's Trade Waste framework and approvals program. This role ensures protection of public health, the environment, and sewerage infrastructure through implementation and enforcement of Trade Waste policies in line with Queensland legislation and standards.
About the role
This is a key regulatory position responsible for administering and enforcing Council's Trade Waste program. You'll help protect public health, the environment, and vital sewerage infrastructure by ensuring trade waste is properly managed and complies with Queensland legislation and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess trade waste applications, set conditions/charges, issue permits and maintain records
* Monitor and sample discharges, coordinate lab testing, and maintain data integrity
* Conduct site inspections of pre-treatment systems (e.g. grease arrestors, separators)
* Investigate non-compliance, prepare evidence, and issue notices or enforcement actions
* Assess plumbing/drainage applications under relevant legislation and codes
* Apply trade waste provisions to protect infrastructure and treatment processes
* Use WSAA guidance values aligned with treatment capability
* Review meter data, estimate discharges, and reconcile billing
* Provide advice to customers, plumbers and stakeholders
* Maintain registers, GIS data, and prepare reports
Essential
* C Class Driver Licence
* QBCC Licensed Plumber and Drainer (or equivalent)
* White Card
* Strong knowledge of QLD legislation (Plumbing & Drainage Act, WS&S Act, NCC, QPW Code)
* Proficiency with digital tools, data management, and billing systems
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable
* Experience in inspections, sampling, investigations, and compliance enforcement
* Cert III/IV in Water Industry Operations (Trade Waste) or willingness to obtain
* Cert IV in Government Investigations
