**About the Role**
We're looking for an Maintenance Technician to join the opening team of Caption by Hyatt Sydney. In this hands-on role, you'll be responsible for assisting with the smooth and efficient operation of all hotel maintenance activities, supporting both guest-facing and back-of-house areas. You'll work closely with the Engineering Manager to carry out maintenance, safety, and preventative tasks that contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for guests and colleagues alike.
As part of the pre-opening team, you will also play a key role in preparing the hotel for opening, assisting with systems testing, contractor handovers, equipment setup, and ensuring all plant and infrastructure is guest ready.
**Some of the responsibilities include**:
- Responding to and completing guest and associate maintenance requests with professionalism and care
- Performing preventative maintenance tasks in guest rooms and throughout the hotel
- Supporting the operation and maintenance of building services equipment, including chillers, pumps, and HVAC systems
- Monitoring life safety systems, fire panels, and responding to emergencies as required
- Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the engineering workshop, plant rooms, and workspaces
- Operating assigned machinery and handling fuel deliveries in line with hotel procedures
- Ensuring compliance with local safety codes, energy conservation measures, and hygiene standards
- Participating in daily briefings and contributing to a positive, team-first environment
- Supporting the hotel's Work Health and Safety policies by identifying and reporting hazards, and fulfilling the role of Area Warden when needed
- Providing a courteous, professional, and solutions-focused experience to internal and external stakeholders
**Qualifications**:
What you will bring to the role:
- A trade qualification or demonstrated experience in hotel or building maintenance
- Sound understanding of plant operations, preventative maintenance, and safety systems
- Ability to read and understand operation manuals and work independently on maintenance tasks
- High standards of personal presentation and a commitment to guest satisfaction
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work flexibly across departments
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays
- A proactive approach to learning and growth in a dynamic hotel environment
