Offer description

CitiPower and Powercor are committed to creating opportunities for First Peoples in the energy industry, through trade and professional career pathways. We recognise the financial barriers to undertaking study and are offering scholarships for First Peoples undertaking a Pre-Apprenticeship Cert II in Electrotechnology.

The scholarship is valued at up to $2,000 and aims to assist First Peoples with costs associated whilst undertaking study – tools, clothing, rent, childcare or to supplement an income. Please note that 2025’s scholarships have now closed.

Scholarship recipients who apply before April 2026 will also undertake additional hands-on training at CitiPower and Powercor depots, including:

- Introduction to power tools
- Recruitment supports (this will include CV/aptitude testing/interview preparation)

In addition, students who come through the program will be provided PPE for their studies.

We’re committed to encouraging women (including transgender women) and non-binary and gender diverse people to explore exciting opportunities in electrical engineering. This program offers a three-year scholarship that includes:

- $5,000 – $10,000 a year in financial assistance over a three-year period
- 12 weeks of paid work experience in penultimate year
- A personal mentor throughout your work experience and scholarship
- Automatic inclusion to assessment day as a candidate for our graduate engineering program.

Applications for scholarships are invited from students of:

- University of Melbourne: Bachelor of Science, specialising in Electrical Systems and intending to begin the Masters of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
- RMIT University: Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, specialising in Power Engineering.

Visit the individual university’s scholarship page for more information and to apply.

Our scholarship provides support for women (including transgender women) and non-binary and gender diverse people undertaking a pre-apprenticeship Certificate II in Electrotechnology. The scholarship was established in 2017 to support students with a desire to enter the electrical industry and help increase the number of women entering into a career in trades.

The scholarship, valued at up to $2,000, will be awarded to students who demonstrate commitment and motivation to succeed in building a career in the electrical industry. The money can be used for costs such as school fees, tools, PPE, clothing, rent, childcare or to supplement an income whilst attending the course.

There is no obligation on the recipient to apply for a role with our company. However, recipients are put on the candidate list for our apprenticeship program when the program opens for applications.

Applications are reviewed three times a year in April, August and December.

Vacation program

Our vacation program is designed for students who are coming into their last year of undergraduate studies in electrical or mechatronics engineering disciplines.

Taking part in paid work experience provides genuine insight into our network. Opportunities are available over a 12-week period from November to February.

This is your opportunity to learn from the best and really put your theories into practice. Our program will give you firsthand experiences, you’ll be exposed to technical and engaging work on real life projects that support the energy transition including solar enablement, demand flexibility, substation testing, solar farm commissioning and much more.

You will be working within teams of highly skilled professionals, solving problems and delivering outcomes. Full support will be provided by an experienced mentor who will introduce you to the business and the diversity of opportunities it offers.

Participation includes automatic inclusion as a candidate for our graduate program.

Applications will open mid-July.
