Senior associate - actuarial

Job Description The Role As a senior associate within our Actuarial team in Sydney, you will specialise in utilising the actuarial skillset to support our public sector clients. This includes supporting government insurers and compensation schemes across the country with pricing, valuation and strategic advice, and working in a broad range of other areas such as climate risk, analytics for the healthcare sector, and social services.

Responsibilities

Using your actuarial and modelling skillset to support our clients in traditional actuarial applications (e.g. liability valuations, AASB 17 implementation, premium pricing) and non-traditional applications

Using mathematical models and statistical techniques to analyse data and forecast uncertain outcomes

Presenting findings to managers and clients and explaining complex technical concepts

Develop data visualisation tools and present that information back to clients in reports, visualisations and dashboards

Take a business led approach to problems by blending commercial understanding with your actuarial experience and consulting mindset to ensure that the insight we develop can truly be used by our clients to add value to their organisation

Managing yourself and others on client engagements to understand the commercial and technical objectives of stakeholders, and translate those into approaches that add value for clients

Fostering a collaborative environment and promoting knowledge sharing

Assisting with pre‑sale activities like proposal writing and solution design

Qualifications About You You’re a values-driven team player who is curious and collaborative in nature. You have a growth mindset and are interested in asking questions to challenge our thinking and love new ideas and trying new things. You're someone who does what you say you'll do, and you do the right thing when no‑one is looking, and you call it when you feel something isn’t quite right.

Educational Background, Experience, Technical Skills, Soft Skills

Educational Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a related field, and working towards or already completed an actuarial qualification with the Actuaries Institute Australia.

Experience:

Between 2 and 5 years of experience in an actuarial or analytical role.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in software such as Excel, SAS, R, Python, and other data analysis tools.

Soft Skills:

Strong problem‑solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients and team members.
