Overview
We are seeking to establish a pool of Laboratory Technicians for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. Located in Broome Senior High School, Western Australia.
The Role
Under the supervision of teaching staff, the Laboratory Technician provides support in the preparation of chemicals and equipment, construction of simple apparatus for science classes, ordering supplies and equipment, monitoring stock levels, performing basic repairs and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. The Technician also constructs teaching aids, labels, maintains and safely stores laboratory chemicals, equipment, and resources, and securely disposes of chemical, physical, and biological laboratory materials. The role may involve assisting with the coordination of the science budget, monitoring expenditure, providing advice as required, and managing business card accounts in accordance with Departmental financial guidelines.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience working within a science laboratory, including knowledge of laboratory techniques and relevant safety and legislative requirements.
* Demonstrated good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently.
* Demonstrated well-developed keyboarding and computer skills including a working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, and word processing.
Eligibility
* Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
