Geotechnical Open Pit Engineer Position
We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Open Pit Engineer to assume key responsibilities in our open pit mining environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct thorough geotechnical mapping of high walls and core logging of drilling programs
* Evaluate geotechnical conditions, assess risks, and provide recommendations for sound designs
* Monitor and assess geotechnical designs and pit slope stability to ensure operational efficiency
* Implement de-pressurisation drilling programs as required and coordinate with other stakeholders
* Ensure blast designs align with geotechnical recommendations to maintain site safety
* Investigate geotechnical occurrences, deliver actionable insights, and drive process improvements
* Provide critical geotechnical input into mine design and scheduling to optimise outcomes
* Maintain accurate records of ground awareness training provided to site personnel
* Collaborate with geologists, surveyors, engineers, and operators to achieve collective goals
* Present safe and cost-effective mining plans to key stakeholders for approval
* Identify opportunities for business growth and implement solutions
* Regularly conduct audits and reviews to ensure documentation is up to date and compliant
About You:
* A tertiary qualification in Mining, Geoscience, Civil Engineering, or a related field with a focus on geomechanics is essential
* A minimum of 3 years' experience in geotechnical roles within an open pit mining environment
* Experience in Operations, Technical Services, or Project Management is desirable
* A strong working knowledge of safety systems, geotechnical design, and controls for open pit operations
* Familiarity with Rocscience Geotechnical software is preferred
* Experience with Leapfrog and/or Deswik is advantageous
* The ability to adapt to new procedures and best practices is vital
* An understanding of Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations is necessary
