Position Summary

Senior Genetic Counsellor (Level 4)

Location: Waratah Campus, Hunter New England Local Health District

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time

Salary: $126,524 – $129,591 per annum + superannuation + salary packaging

Hours per week: 38

About the Role

Bring your expertise in genetic counselling to a role that blends clinical leadership, innovation, and meaningful patient care. As a Senior Genetic Counsellor, you will provide specialist genetic counselling services to individuals and families at risk of hereditary cancer, actively participate in multidisciplinary teams, supervise students, and lead service improvements. You will support the Principle Genetic Counsellor and Service Manager in planning and developing the Cancer Genetics Network.


Responsibilities

* Deliver specialist genetic counselling services to patients and families across Hunter New England
* Develop and implement care plans for complex cases using tools such as TrackGene and risk prediction models
* Supervise students and junior staff, providing clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams
* Lead multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to improving service delivery and innovative care models
* Assist in the development and implementation of the Cancer Genetics Network and service planning
* Support professional development and training of staff as required


Qualifications & Requirements

* Undergraduate degree in a non‑nursing, non‑medical discipline
* Postgraduate qualification in genetic counselling with Part II certification from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia
* Extensive post‑graduate clinical experience in cancer genetic counselling
* History of supervising staff and students within a genetic counselling setting
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a history of collaboration with health professionals, community groups and agencies
* Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel across NSW, including overnight stays
* Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or New Zealand citizenship with a current passport (temporary visa holders only under specific circumstances)
