**The Role**
As a Defence Ranger under limited direction exercise responsibility in enabling public access to Beecroft Weapons Range.
Your duties will be varied and include supporting environmental and land management, visitor and stakeholder liaison and educational activities, protection of indigenous sites of cultural significance, and field-based activities such as emergency response management and compliance with the Defence (Public Area) By-laws.
You will engage with a wide range of people, as you will represent Defence in liaising with diverse stakeholders, including Defence personnel, contractors, interest groups, the local community and Australian and international visitors.
Your day will be a blend of outdoor work by motor vehicle or boat, office-based administrative duties and responding to public enquiries.
You will police range access, oversee natural environment and cultural heritage values within the Beecroft Peninsula and take charge of and direct public visitors during emergency incidents in accordance with emergency response plans and at times without direct supervision.
**About our Team**
The Directorate Operations Training Areas Management (DOTAM), Operations & Training Area Management - NSW/ACT within Security & Estate Group (SEG) is looking to fill an ongoing position at Beecroft Weapons Range (BWR), also known to the Jerrinja people as 'Bundarwa'.
The Defence Rangers are a small, close-knit team whose principal role is managing public access including public safety and environmental compliance.
They identify safety related maintenance, respond to issues arising from public areas such as campgrounds, beaches and the lighthouse precinct, and they take charge of public visitors in the event of an emergency incident, such as bush fire.
The team is the face of Defence to visitors and the local community accessing the Beecroft Peninsula Public Area.
The team works collaboratively with internal & external contractors and stakeholders to provide Defence Capability, protection of environment and cultural heritage values within the Beecroft Peninsula.
- Have an understanding of the traditional custodians of 'Bundarwa', the Jerrinja people, and of their connection to Country.
- Be customer focused with service delivery experience.
- Enjoy working outdoors and engaging with the public, have customer service skill, and feel confident dealing with difficult customers.
- Be a strong team player who is comfortable working in a small team as well as working alone with limited supervision.
- Be reasonably fit and physically able to tolerate outdoor work under a variety of thermal conditions.
- Have administrative experience, including records and finance management (taking monies, receipting, banking etc.).
- Possess well developed communication skills and the ability to persuade and influence outcomes with a diverse range of stakeholders and the ability to resolve customer issues.
- Possess some experience in land management and/ or an understanding of species, flora and fauna of the local area.
