The Opportunity
Step into one of Queensland's largest and busiest Emergency Departments, where your expertise will shape care for over 100,000 patients annually — including 20% paediatric presentations in our dedicated 12-bed paediatric area. With a 30% admission rate and 95% ambulance off-stretcher compliance, Townsville University Hospital (TUH) ED is a high-performing, high-impact environment.
As a TUH ED Staff Specialist, you'll work across adult and paediatric zones, the short stay unit, and contribute to aeromedical retrieval coordination for North Queensland. You'll also play a key role in the Frailty Intervention Team, delivering senior emergency outreach to geriatric patients in residential aged care facilities.
What You'll Do
1. Deliver expert clinical care across a mixed adult and paediatric ED
2. Provide consultation and advice to patients, families, and colleagues
3. Participate in aeromedical coordination for the Northern Zone (credentialing required)
4. Engage in outreach through the Frailty Intervention Team
5. Lead and contribute to quality improvement, peer review, and audit
6. Maintain CPD and work within your awarded Scope of Clinical Practice
* Ensure high-quality clinical documentation and mentor junior medical staff

7. Attraction and Retention Incentive Allowance – 50% of base salary
8. Regional and Rural Attraction Allowance – 5% of base salary (Palm Island: 10%)
9. Motor Vehicle Allowance – Between $21,000 and $25,500 per annum
10. Professional Development Allowance – $21,500 per annum + 3.6 weeks of professional development leave
11. Emergency Department Specialist Allowance of 25% base salary.
12. On-call and shift allowances (if applicable)

Flexible Work Options:
14. Permanent Part-Time: 40 hours per fortnight
* Temporary Part-Time: 27 Oct 2025 to 10 May 2026, 40 hours per fortnight

Role Requirements
15. Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent
16. Possession of a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a registered tertiary institution
17. Current registration (or eligibility) with AHPRA to practise emergency medicine
18. Demonstrated clinical experience in both paediatric and adult Emergency Medicine
* Highly desirable: experience and qualifications in adult and paediatric emergency medicine, pre-hospital care, and aeromedical retrieval
