About the Opportunity

We're seeking a skilled and dedicated Health, Safety and Training Advisor to join our high performing team at Blair Athol Mine.
Reporting to the HST Superintendent, this role is critical in maintaining and improving our Health, Safety and Training systems to ensure legislative compliance and operational excellence.
You will partner with site leaders to drive risk reduction, manage training frameworks, and enhance workforce capability through structured systems and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
Your core responsibilities will include:
Maintain and enhance the site's Health and Safety Management System in compliance with Queensland mining legislation.
Conduct risk assessments, inspections, and investigations to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
Deliver and evaluate site wide safety and operational training, ensuring all personnel are qualified and competent.
Lead the coordination of Training Needs Analyses and development of competency based frameworks.
Mentor and support Supervisors and Superintendents in safety leadership and training initiatives.
Promote a proactive safety culture through toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and workforce engagement.
Prepare safety performance reports and contribute to regulatory submissions.
Manage Emergency Response Team (ERT) coordination and drills and ensure RTW programs are in place and compliant.
Champion innovation by identifying and introducing new safety tools, systems, and technology to improve safety performance and training delivery.
Lead the development and implementation of site wide safety campaigns, behavioural safety initiatives, and awareness programs.
Act as a trusted advisor to operational leaders, supporting informed decision making and risk management across departments.
Lead internal audits and ensure readiness for site inspections, compliance checks, and external audits.
Collaborate cross functionally with Maintenance, Mining, and CHPP to align safety strategies and training requirements.
Take a leadership role in incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent methodologies, including follow up and close out of corrective actions.
Provide input into the continuous improvement of safety systems, procedures, and cultural initiatives.

What You'll Bring to the Role
To be successful, you will bring:
Diploma in Work Health and Safety (or similar) and working knowledge of the Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Regulations.
Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating health and safety training programs.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE*****) – highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience in conducting incident investigations, audits, and compliance reporting.
RTW Coordinator training and current First Aid certification – mandatory.Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to coach, influence and engage leaders and frontline teams.
A proactive, hands on approach and the ability to remain calm, focused and adaptable in dynamic site conditions.
