About the opportunity

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics (Education-focused).

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) brings together researchers and educators in the life, earth and environmental sciences. We offer a broad range of undergraduate majors and degrees including biochemistry and molecular biology, biology, ecology and evolutionary biology, genetics and genomics, marine science, microbiology, plant science, soil science, animal and veterinary science, wildlife conservation and agriculture.

Working within the Molecules, Cells and Organisms Theme, the successful candidate will dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (70%). The remainder will include opportunities to contribute to the broader research, scholarly and outreach activities of the School, Faculty, and wider University community.

The candidate will support and potentially coordinate undergraduate Units of Study broadly associated with biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics and undertake class management, supervision and lecturing in these Units (plus additional units, where required). The position will also support the academic coordinators of other units within the SOLES as required.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics and demonstrate a commitment to developing skills as an educator. They will be highly organised and preferably have experience in the management of undergraduate courses including lecturing, tutorials, practical class management, assessment, WHS, evaluation and other associated tasks.

They will understand the principles and pedagogy of good assessment design, constructively aligning assessment tasks to learning outcomes. They will have a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, facilitating and guiding their learning in theory and practical sessions, and undertaking appropriate pastoral care. They will appreciate the increasing influence of AI into educational procedures and work effectively to incorporate technology into their teaching and approaches to assessment. They will communicate clearly and empathetically with students, providing inclusive, responsive support and guidance across both online and face-to-face teaching environments.

This is a wonderful opportunity to join the University of Sydney – Australia's first university – at an exciting and innovative time with the development of a new strategic plan, which will build upon our outstanding global reputation of education and research excellence.
