The State Transport Manager holds strategic and operational responsibility for the end-to-end transport function within Western Australia. This senior leadership role ensures the effective management of people, fleet, resources, compliance, safety, and cost, while driving performance, service delivery, and continuous improvement across all transport functions. Leadership & Strategy Lead WA's transport strategy aligned with national goals and commercial outcomes. Develop and implement initiatives to enhance service delivery, reduce cost, and improve fleet efficiency. Provide strategic oversight for all freight operations to meet customer delivery requirements. Participate in Capex and budgeting processes to support transport department outcomes. People Management Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing team of Managers, Supervisors, Planners, and Drivers. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high performance. Partner with People & Culture on recruitment, workforce planning, and performance management. Support team development through mentoring, coaching, and standards-setting. Operational Management Manage transport KPIs, service levels, and delivery performance. Drive continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and fleet utilisation. Ensure resource allocation, staffing, and subcontractor use align with workload and budgets. Liaise with customers on service issues, requirements, and delivery expectations. Financial Management Monitor and manage costs within approved budget limits. Ensure labour and asset utilisation is efficient and cost-effective. Analyse equipment use and develop strategies for optimal load and cost efficiency. Safety, Compliance & WHS Lead a proactive safety culture with a focus on injury prevention and compliance. Ensure safe work practices, fleet licensing, equipment maintenance, and repairs. Participate in WHS activities including toolbox meetings, risk assessments, and inspections. Support return-to-work processes for injured staff and uphold environmental compliance. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement Respond to service queries and manage transport-related complaints. Provide leadership to freight coordination and local distribution teams to meet customer expectations. Experience in heavy vehicle transport (e.g., linehaul, interstate freight). Skills and Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience in transport/logistics operations, with at least 3 years in a management role. High level of leadership ability Excellent communication and interpersonal skills A strong focus on customer service Exceptional attention to detail and maintain a sustained level of concentration in a high risk fast paced environment Experience using the SAP system Experience implementing new systems / process Experience in a freight scanning environment COR knoweldge Personal Qualities: A proactive attitude with a high degree of initiative and a positive approach The desire to perform the job function with the highest level of professionalism, safety initiative and eagerness to reach the overall common goal. Sees the value in supporting their direct reports and motivate them to work together as a team. Confident to make consistent sound decisions, analyse information and form judgement with a strategic business approach.
