Job Title: Civil Infrastructure Designer
Description:
This role is responsible for shaping the future of civil infrastructure in Hobson's Bay. As a technical expert, you will establish design standards, manage internal and external resources, and deliver high-quality outcomes across roads, drainage, and transport projects.
You will provide specialist advice across Council, foster cross-department collaboration, and drive continuous improvement in infrastructure design. You will ensure all design activities meet legislative requirements and best practice standards and take the lead in shaping and development of a high-performing Design Office.
Your Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and manage the Design Office, ensuring effective resource allocation and project delivery
* Develop and maintain engineering design standards aligned with legislation and best practices
* Oversee civil infrastructure designs across roads, drainage, pathways, and transport projects
* Provide expert technical advice, mentoring, and quality assurance across design activities
* Drive strategic planning, asset management, and capital works through concept design and feasibility
* Collaborate with stakeholders and manage external consultants to meet project and community goals
Requirements:
* Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
* Must have valid engineering registration (NER) in accordance with Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019
* Extensive experience with roads and drainage networks, local government infrastructure
* Advanced proficiency in computer-aided design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 12d) and GIS applications
* Proven complex project management skills, including budget and contract management
* Strong interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
