The Head of Engineering will be responsible for leading and managing the work of a dedicated broader engineering and maintenance team. The role includes overseeing the design, development, and production of all components within our primary and secondary tree nut and fruit processing facilities and farming operations. Furthermore, the role will be responsible for ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required level of quality.
In addition, the role will design, draw and cost both major capital works related to major infrastructure processing facility builds and processing production lines. This will be achieved by ensuring that the team is properly staffed, trained, and equipped to meet the demands of the projects. Beyond managing the day-to-day operations of the mechanical engineering department, the Head of Engineering will also play a key role in long-term strategic planning, working with other managers and executives to identify and develop new capability ideas and opportunities, along with helping to establish and implement policies and procedures that support the overall goals of the organisation.
Duties include but not limited to
* Oversee the design, development, and implementation of processing and packing lines
* Oversee the design, development and implementation of major infrastructure capital works
* Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching to team members
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
* Maintain knowledge of industry trends and advancements and incorporate them into company strategy
* Provide technical guidance and support to other departments as needed
* Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes to increase efficiency and productivity
Essential Criteria, Skills and Experience
* Experience in a similar role within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
* Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and Lean Manufacturing principles
* Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
* Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and management
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Proficient in 3D design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Pro/Engineer
* Ability to think critically and solve complex problems
* Demonstrated ability to manage and meet project timelines and budgets
* Excellent people management and leadership skills including the ability to build and manage high-performance teams
* Ability to travel

What You Should Know About Our Operations
Our business is widespread, growing walnuts, almonds and bees in the Riverina Region in New South Wales, pecans in Moree and macadamias, avocados and mangoes in Bundaberg, Queensland.
Off the paddock, we operate nut processing and packing facilities in Leeton, Toowoomba and Bundaberg as well as fruit packing and processing in Bundaberg. In addition, our shared services teams (Finance, Sales, ESG, Safety and People & Culture) are located across all of our sites as well as the Brisbane, Melbourne and Griffith offices.
