About Us Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission. The Law Library of Victoria The Supreme Court Library is the library of the Supreme Court of Victoria. It is a unified library supporting all jurisdictions in Victoria, as well as barristers and solicitors, who as members of the Victorian legal profession have access as of right. About the role The VCAT Reference Librarian is responsible for delivering high quality reference services to VCAT. The Law Library of Victoria is an integrated library serving the Supreme Court, the County Court, the Magistrates Court and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT). The Reference Librarians work as an integrated team ensuring the delivery of high quality and responsive legal reference, research, user education and current awareness services to library users and advise on the acquisition of appropriate resource materials in each jurisdiction. The Reference Librarians are also responsible for developing and maintaining productive relationships with the judiciary and legal profession. They assess, analyse and report on user needs and expectations in order to inform the development of the Library's programs and services. The Reference Librarians undertake a range of duties that comprise active collection management both to local collections and to the broader Law Library collection, particularly the collection housed at the Supreme Court Library. Key accountabilities include: * Providing reference and research services to library users by personally responding to service requests across the various service points of the library and updating the Library Request Management System (RMS). * Using knowledge to resolve local operational service problems and provide guidance to others. * Preparing and publishing library current awareness, judgments, legal updates and web content in an accurate and timely manner. * Indexing and cataloguing materials onto the Library Management System (LMS) and undertaking end-processing of hard copy collection items. * Delivering legal research and digital literacy education and training to library users. * Providing advice and guidance to the Director and integrated library team and service partners in aligning services with user needs and expectations. * Contributing to the successful operation of the library service by providing a positive customer experience for all users of the library service and assisting colleagues and managers in continuous improvement initiatives to meet organisational objectives. * Providing professional advice on behalf of the library on external and internal committees as appropriate. About you * Demonstrated interest in and awareness of online research databases, emerging trends and developments in the library sector, publishing industry and digital communication tools and strategies. * Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering engagement and educational programs, preferably within a legal environment. * Relevant tertiary qualifications in Librarianship or a related discipline, and eligibility for Associate (professional) membership of the Australian Library Information Association as desirable.
