About The Role
St Colman's School is seeking applications from an enthusiastic and suitably qualified Chaplain. This is a Term Time position completing 8 hours across 2 days per week on a Fixed Term Contract until the completion of the 2021 school year. The Chaplain works in collaboration with the school community to provide pastoral and spiritual support to students, fosters faith development, and advances the religious life of the college. The Chaplain will engage with Church/faith communities and agencies.
Key Accountabilities
Provide pastoral and spiritual support to students: spend informal time with students (playground, classroom, excursions); mentor and support students during the transition to adulthood.
Engage students in opportunities for faith development: coordinate reflection and prayer experiences; help organise major liturgies and celebrations.
Advance the religious life of the school: contribute to Catholic ethos within the college.
Foster the experience of Catholic community: support events promoting collegiate spirit; contact families in need under the Principal's direction.
Engage the school community in social justice and social action: share information about social justice resources and groups.
Encourage and facilitate connections with church/faith communities: involve students in parish activities; foster ecumenical and inter-faith relationships.
Ongoing professional learning: participate in TCE programs and local chaplain networks.
Generalist administration: maintain records and data.
Any other reasonable task as directed.
Experience
About You
Demonstrated organisational and time management skills to balance priorities.
Experience in providing ministry and spiritual support and wellbeing services to students.
Experience in supporting children, young people and families to address social and emotional needs.
Skills
Ability to liaise with community service organisations, government agencies and other services.
Ability to support the college and teachers to identify and develop educational, social and emotional programs.
Ability to support the ethos and values of Catholic Education.
Ability to develop and sustain productive working relationships.
Attributes
Understanding of the Mission and Purpose of Catholic Education and religious/values education in young people.
Willingness to work with students, staff and the college community.
Mandatory Criteria
Current Working with Children Card; paid Blue Card required before commencement as per No Card, No Start policy (Queensland).
Certificate IV in Youth Work, Chaplaincy or Pastoral Care (or higher) including competencies in making appropriate referrals and mental health.
Current Driver's Licence.
Ability to travel within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville as needed.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role safely.
Desirable Criteria
Interest in ongoing professional development.
Experience in the education or Catholic sectors.
Some employees may be subject to pre-employment medical assessments. In some cases, immunisation against certain preventable diseases may be required.
