Wide Area Networks Engineer
, on a contract basis within the Defence sector. The role is based in
Symonston, ACT
. The contract is for an
initial 24 month period, with a 2 x 12 month extension option
.
Start: circa 01 November 2025
DSS Skill Set: Level 3 - Specialist Engineering - Communications Network Engineering
The Networks Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:
 * Provide Network Solution Engineering within the validate function.
 * Build and administer mission network's WANs.
 * Build, configure and test Mission Network WAN and routing assemblies prior to issue to Army formations.
 * Establish and management of Internet Protocol (IP) cryptographic nets for the secure transport.
 * Develop and align systems to emerging Cryptography requirements including post Quantum encryption.
 * Enhance wideband trunking in the deployed environment.
 * Enhance Deployable Local Area Network switching and routing
 * Assist in future SATCOM and narrowband services engineering
 * Assist in the configuration of Tactical Communication Systems (TCN) routing
 * Support the development and engineering of SWARM systems
 * Develop and test black core network configurations to support Army formations.
 * Provide technical training and mentorship to personnel within Army formations.
 * Contribute to the design of network topologies and inform stakeholders on the development of Land Network solutions.
 * Provide technical advice and guidance to developing capabilities to enable a digitally integrated system.
 * Propose innovation activities to assess emerging technologies.
 * Assist in design and configuration of the System and Laboratory connections.
 * Supplement and assist the System Support Environment Network and Services engineering team, including but limited to HyperVisor and Hyper Converged Infrastructure (HCI) technologies.
 * Assist in the development and sustainment of the Battle Lab to support integration activities .
 * Assist in design and validation of Armies network design and ratification of technical standards
 * Provide on-ground SME support to domestic and international activities.
 * Provide other services as tasked by Commonwealth or Senior Engineering staff.
Minimum mandatory requirements:
 * AGSVA Security clearance.
 * Extensive experience in designing, implementing and operating SATCOM and WAN technologies in military or industry contexts.
 * Strong working knowledge of networking at enterprise and deployable networks.
 * Relevant tertiary or vocational qualifications in SATCOM Engineering, Network Engineering or related disciplines.
 * Experience supporting Defence or government projects.
 * Familiarity with integrating emerging technologies into secure infrastructure.
 * Ability to operate and succeed in a dynamic environment, whether in a multi-disciplinary team or independently.
 * Proven skills and experience in stakeholder management.
Desirable Requirements:
 * Working knowledge and/or experience of Defence/Industry Test & Evaluation practices and procedures.
 * Working knowledge and/or experience of Defence/industry systems engineering practices and procedures.
 * Relevant experience in delivering capability to customer or user groups.
 * Experience in delivering technical instruction.
 * Technical writing and documentation.
