INTERNAL TO WESTERN SYDNEY LOCAL HEALTH DISTRICT APPLICANTS ONLY WSLHD Mental Health Services Permanent Up to 4.4FTE Staff Specialist or Fixed Term Visiting Medical Officer (until 30 June 2027) Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist CLICK HERE TO APPLY Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above positions in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be based within WSLHD PCYMHS at either Parramatta, Mount Druitt or Redbank House at Westmead Hospital, reporting to the Clinical Director, PCYMHS in Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist. The Perinatal, Child and Youth Mental Health Service in WSLHD provides inpatient and community mental health services to families of Western Sydney with children or adolescents impacted by symptoms of mental illness and mental distress. The Service is currently undergoing a period of transition as we seek to meet the increasing clinical need for effective, efficient and accountable service delivery with Models of Care that are intrinsically client and family centred and are informed by the impacts of transgenerational trauma. Successful applicants will be self-motivated and able to work independently with an established multidisciplinary team, supported through high quality supervision and training. There are opportunities for clinical supervision and peer review, consultation, presentations, and innovative research as part of the role. Successful applicants will be expected to provide admitting, consultative, diagnostic, outpatient and on call services within the specialty as determined and required by the WSLHD. The position will require regular consultation and collaboration with a range of Government and Community Managed Organisations to support sustainable systems to promote recovery. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship and Certificate of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within 6 months may be considered. If successful, such applicants may not be eligible to commence their full Senior Medical Officer appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed. Essential Requirements for Appointment 1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and be certified or within 6 months of completion of Certificate of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. 2. Demonstrated clinical knowledge and experience working in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as evidenced through successful clinical practice in both inpatient and community Child and Adolescent mental health environments. 3. Demonstrated high level skills and attributes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including: · written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills · ability to work effectively and proactively with a multidisciplinary child and/or adolescent mental health team · experience and involvement in evidence-based best practice and quality assurance activities · commitment to teaching and supervision 4. Demonstrated clinical knowledge of the sequelae of trauma and attachment disruptions on the developmental trajectory of children, adolescents and families. 5. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring reflective practice that supports credentialling to the position and is commensurate with the scope of practice requirements of the position. Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award or the Health Services Act 1997 and Public Hospitals (Visiting Medical Officers Sessional Contracts) Determination 2014. Are you a current Western Sydney Local Health District employee. 2. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Applicants who are to be awarded Fellowship and Certificate of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within 6 months are welcome to apply. 3. Successful applicants will hold a Certificate of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and have demonstrated experience with the provision child and adolescent mental health care in both inpatient and community settings. 4. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including: · Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team. · Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues. · Excellent organizational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships. · Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice. · Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality. 5. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system. 6. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by: · Systems thinking and capacity to manage appropriate clinical risk within scope. · Commitment to self-care and personal development. · Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience. · Commitment to building relationships which contribute to leading and developing others. · Capacity to incorporate outcome measures that are meaningful to young people and their care systems into clinical work in addition to standard measures required for KPI reporting. 7. Commitment to sound clinical governance, with accountability for achieving results and managing risks 8. Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position.
