About the role We are seeking a senior lawyer with experience in ICT law to join our Commonwealth Government client. The successful candidate will contribute to a team that provides legal advice and assistance on legal framework matters arising from whole-of-government initiatives, including artificial intelligence (AI) use cases and implementation of the Australian Government's key AI policies.
An initial 4-month labour hire contract is on offer, commencing March 2026.
This role is part‐time (minimum two days per week) and is available to candidates based in Canberra, ACT. Remote or flexible working arrangements will be considered on a case‐by‐case basis.
Please note: only Australian citizens with the ability to obtain/maintain a Baseline security clearance can be considered for this role; however, an existing clearance will be highly regarded.
Duties:
* Provide legal advice in relation to the adoption of AI use cases which are expected to span service delivery, scientific and corporate support domains.
* Work independently within a small team to prepare legal advice, conduct research, and engage with internal client areas.
* Provide advice on automated decision‐making (ADM) issues.
* Minimum of three years post‐admission experience.
* Previous APS experience, including familiarity with obligations under the Legal Services Directions 2017, is highly desirable.
* Demonstrated experience providing legal advice on AI use cases and ADM, and a sound understanding of the Australian Government's key AI policies would be highly regarded.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a strength to work both independently and in a team environment.
