Our Organisation
The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is the Australian Government’s foreign signals intelligence, offensive cyber and cyber security agency.
The ASD motto, Reveal their secrets - Protect our own, summarises our roles: we collect foreign intelligence; we conduct offensive cyber operations; and we provide advice and assistance on information and cyber security.

As a senior leader in ASD, you will have an important role leading this change.
Position Description
We are seeking to fill two positions at the SES Band 2 level, the roles are outlined below. When submitting your application, please specify which role you are applying for. First Assistant Director-General Access and Effects Operations
In this role you will lead a high-tempo and diverse Division responsible for delivering critical operational and intelligence outcomes in support of Government, the Australian Defence Force and ASD functions. You will lead a high-performing integrated civilian/military workforce and work across the Defence portfolio, Australian Government and international partners to deliver innovative operations and achieve results.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience leading an operational workforce, high-level judgment used to manage competing operational priorities and risks, an ability to drive requirements that enable operations to be executed in a dynamic strategic environment, and an ability to foster and leverage strategic relationships with a diverse set of partners and stakeholders.
First Assistant Director-General Technology Capability
In this role you will manage one of ASD’s Technology Capability Divisions which are responsible for mission data, ICT or operational technology. You will:
* Be responsible for delivering technical capability that enables signals and cyber intelligence outcomes.
* Manage large teams of primarily technically focussed staff, to identify and meet the existing and emerging technology capability needs of ASD, Defence and the National Intelligence Community.
* Work with colleagues to provide leadership for ASD in areas including the adoption of Cloud and Artificial Intelligence technologies.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in successfully leading and delivering complex technology programs, including appropriate fiscal and governance processes and leading a highly technical workforce, to deliver sustainable capability. We are looking for a candidate who has exemplary stakeholder management skills, and will exercise high-level judgement, and foster innovation to resolve complex problems, think laterally, lead through change and provide contestability in decision making.
As part of the Senior Leadership Group, you will play a key role in promoting and influencing a shared commitment to the strategic direction of ASD as the Australian Government’s foreign signals intelligence, offensive cyber, and cyber security agency. You will work with colleagues across the Defence portfolio and Government to achieve results.
You will manage significant staff and budget resources, leverage strategic relationships and engage collaboratively with customers and stakeholders. You will work closely with international partners, and will manage an Australia-wide workforce.
