Senior Legal Counsel – People & Culture

In the role of Senior Legal Counsel, you will join the People & Culture team that's doubling down on customer obsession.
Responsibilities
* Lead the review of material risk and conduct events at NAB for the purposes of fostering a learning culture and continuous improvement together with assessing those events for individual accountability.
* Be part of the Independent Review Team, contributing to the effective delivery of Fact Finds, Learning Reviews, and Consequences Investigations into material risk and conduct events in accordance with the Risk, Conduct & Accountability Assessment Guide.
* Champion a culture of integrity, fairness, and objectivity by embedding procedural fairness throughout all review activities.
* Collaborate with the Managing Counsel, Review Team to define the scope, objectives and timelines of Fact Finds and Learning Reviews, ensuring alignment with NAB's accountability framework and regulatory obligations, including CPS 511 Remuneration and FAR.
* Conduct evidence‐based analysis through document reviews, interviews, and workshops to build a comprehensive understanding of events.
* Identify systemic and root causes of issues and translate findings into actionable enterprise‐level improvement plans.
* Proactively manage risk, including suitably documented and assessed controls, obligations and processes.
* Liaise and build healthy working relationships with key stakeholders.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience working in a similar role with Legal, Risk, Compliance, Group Investigations, and/or Regulatory Affairs experience, preferably within the Financial Services sector.
* Proven track record in undertaking complex, high‐stakes workplace investigations or reviews involving material risk, conduct, or regulatory matters.
* Experience in consequence management, accountability frameworks, and enterprise-level risk governance.
* Exceptional drafting skills with a focus on high quality, plain language, grammar, spelling and attention to detail.
* Ability to analyse volumes of sometimes complex material for meaning and root cause analysis.
* Effective stakeholder engagement skills and a collaborative and partnering approach.
* Strong organisational skills, including prioritisation and time management and able to work at pace while delivering high quality business outcomes.
* Exhibit professional and ethical behaviour and ensure compliance with external legislation, bank standards and internal operating policies and procedures relevant to the position.
* Be able to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism, leveraging document management systems to uphold integrity and security.
