Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially astute Financial Controller to lead the Australia and New Zealand Finance function. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in financial reporting, analysis, and technical accounting, who can translate complex financial data into actionable insights for senior management. The successful candidate will also play a key advisory role in contract reviews and negotiations, supporting commercial teams to drive business growth and mitigate risks. As a Chartered Accountant with a strong auditing background and proven senior leadership experience, you will ensure financial integrity, compliance, and operational excellence in a dynamic commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Oversee the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements. Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities, providing data-driven insights to support management decision-making.
* Management Reporting:
Develop and present comprehensive management reports that highlight key financial metrics, performance indicators, and strategic recommendations. Translate numerical data into meaningful narratives to guide business strategy and operational improvements.
* Technical Accounting and Revenue Recognition:
Manage complex technical accounting matters, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AAS), IFRS, and relevant regulations. Lead revenue recognition processes, including policy development, implementation, and audits.
* Budgeting and Forecasting:
Drive the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting, and scenario modeling to support divisional goals and long-term planning.
* Risk Management and Compliance:
Identify financial risks, implement internal controls, and ensure adherence to statutory requirements, tax obligations, and corporate governance standards.
* Team Leadership and Development:
Lead and mentor a finance team, fostering a high-performance culture and promoting continuous professional development.
* Stakeholder Engagement:
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., commercial, operations, and executive teams) and external parties (e.g., auditors, regulators) to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
* Process Improvement:
Identify and implement efficiencies in financial systems, processes, and tools to enhance accuracy, speed, and scalability.
Qualifications and Experience
* Professional Qualification:
Must be a Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent, with training from a reputable auditing firm (e.g., Big Four experience highly regarded).
* Experience:
12 years of post-qualification commercial experience, with a proven track record in senior finance roles at a divisional or group level. Experience in a commercial or industry-focused environment is essential, demonstrating success in driving financial performance and business partnering.
* Industry Knowledge:
Familiarity with Australian financial regulations, commercial operations, and sectors such as resources, manufacturing, or services would be advantageous.
