THE ROLE

Do you want to build your skills in decision making, adaptability and communication whilst building your knowledge of Lifeguard operations? Are you interested in joining an organisation that prioritises employee development and serving the community with their best interest at heart?

If so, here's your opportunity to join YMCA SA as a lifeguard! At the Y, our lifeguards protect, inspire and help thousands of South Australians feel safe and supported at our sites all year round. Here, you'll play a bigger role than just being a poolside supervisor, you'll also be a role model and a community builder. Based at Whyalla Recreation Centre, you'll be part of a lively and energetic team that actively strives to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provide active supervision to ensure the safety of all pool users
* Identify risks and respond quickly and appropriately to incidents or emergencies
* Deliver first aid when required
* Promote safe aquatic practices and encourage positive behaviours among patrons
* Assist with pool operations, including equipment setup, pack down, and compliance with safety standard

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE Y

Successful Lifeguard candidates will also have, or be willing to obtain:

* SISSS00133 Pool Lifeguard or equivalent.
* HLTAID011 Provide First Aid or equivalent.
* HLTAID009 Perform CPR or equivalent.
* RRHAN-EC Masterclass – Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education & Care.
* Friendly, personable and capable of working under pressure.

For those interested in obtaining your lifeguard qualifications, there will be a lifeguard course that is being held on the 14th and 15th March 2026 in Port Augusta.
