About the role
This role contributes to the success of the City by supporting the delivery of the City of Hobart Waste Management Strategy 2015–2030, ensuring that safe, efficient, and cost‑effective waste management practices are provided every day.
Role accountabilities include:
* Coordinating the delivery of landfill rehabilitation plans, including capping, revegetation, and erosion control.
* Supporting operations across landfill, transfer station, organic recycling, and resource recovery.
* Operating and maintaining plant and equipment, including Loader, Excavator, Compactor, Tracked Loader, and Heavy Rigid Truck.
* Providing clear information to the public regarding waste disposal and recycling services.
* Managing on‑site traffic in a safe and controlled manner.
* Ensuring environmental compliance and maintaining a clean and safe site at all times.
* Working across other areas of the Waste and Circular Economy Unit as required, including rostered weekends.
You are an experienced plant operator who enjoys working outdoors and contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes. You demonstrate strong technical ability, a commitment to safety, and pride in delivering high‑quality waste and resource recovery services.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
* Demonstrated experience operating small to medium plant, including loaders, excavators, compactors, and heavy rigid trucks.
* The ability to read and work from programs, manuals, and operational procedures.
* A strong understanding of Work Health and Safety obligations and requirements.
* A collaborative approach and a customer‑focused attitude.
* Physical capacity to perform outdoor manual handling tasks and extended walking.
* Commitment to best practice waste disposal and recovery methods.
Qualifications and licences required:
* Certificate III in Waste Management (or the capacity to obtain this qualification).
* White Card.
* Registration to Work with Vulnerable People.
