What You’ll Do
- Responsible for the mechanical design of the next module or chassis to bring to market, addressing requirements such as structure, cooling, EMC, safety, manufacturability, cost, appearance, tolerances, and documentation, while aligning with existing product families and tight schedules.
- Explore team-suggested solutions and add recent options that balance all requirements.
- Implement the selected design using Creo 3D CAD and provide all necessary drawings, critical function dimensions, and 3D files for prototyping and manufacturing.
- Schedule and manage peer and cross-functional design reviews and participate in reviews of other engineers’ designs.
- Structure bill of materials (BOM), release and change the product using product lifecycle management tools (Agile).
- Provide 3D models for thermal simulations and PCB design drawings/3D files to the ECAD team; collaborate with electrical engineering and PCB layout on placement and PCB verification.
- Work with contract manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers to address DFM concerns.
- Work in the lab to verify prototypes against the 3D MCAD design and troubleshoot issues.
- Communicate manufacturing issues found in the lab to the CM and participate in cross-functional team meetings to resolve production sustaining issues.
- Travel to suppliers as needed to troubleshoot issues or expedite builds.
Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of experience.
- Experience in mechanical design of computer/network equipment for data centers is preferred.
- Experience with ECO, BOM, and Deviation processes; Agile experience is a plus.
- Experience using ProEngineer (PTC Creo) and Creo Simulate (Mechanica) is a plus.
- Experience with thermal simulation and airflow testing; liquid cooling experience is a plus.
- Experience designing sheet metal parts and plastic parts for cosmetic and non-cosmetic uses.
- Familiarity with PDMLink (PTC Windchill) is a plus.
- Hands-on testing experience (shock, vibration, EMC, etc.) is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Fluent in English.
